Oxford also boasts a low cost of living and a public school system that has received the State Board of Education's highest rating. Oxford is a very peaceful town, it is in close proximity to the Memphis International Airport, the casinos in Tunica, Helena and the gulf coast, and a number of state parks and Civil War battelfields and many more interesting, historical attractions.

The University of Mississippi and Oxford's rich literary tradition allow people to explore a myriad of cultures and ideas from all over the world, while the Oxford Conference for the Book, the Double-Decker Arts Festival and an occasional Ole Miss Rebels home game bring the otherwise quiet streets roaring to life. Residents can spend their evenings perusing Oxford's historic bookstore or its art gallery, or simply strolling through the avenues among the beautiful Magnolia and Oak Trees that have come to distinguish the south so well. Many of its night spots provide a wide range of live music and the discriminate diner can choose from a selection of Thai, Italian, Caribbean, and, of course, traditional southern restaurants.

Oxford is the cradle of Southern writers. At Square Books you can pick up a copy of John Grisham's "The Painted House" or William Faulkner's "Intruder in the Dust."
